ABOUT MBBA

The Michigan Black Business Alliance (MBBA) exists to strengthen and grow Black-owned businesses across Michigan through advocacy, access to capital, programming, and community. MBBA builds partnerships with funders, financial institutions, higher education, and community organizations to deliver programs and resources that help members start, sustain, and scale their businesses.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Program & Membership Coordinator plays a central role in the day-to-day delivery of MBBA's programs and the growth and care of its membership base. This person will support cohort-based programming from planning through execution, manage member communications and engagement touchpoints, and help keep program and membership operations organized and on track. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable juggling multiple projects and partners at once, and energized by direct engagement with small business owners and community partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PROGRAM SUPPORT
  • Support planning and logistics for MBBA cohort programs and workshops, including scheduling, venue and vendor coordination, and materials preparation.
  • Serve as a point of contact for program participants, facilitators, and contractors throughout the life of a cohort.
  • Track program milestones, deliverables, and deadlines, and flag risks to the Director of Membership Experience early.
  • Assist with participant recruitment, applications, and onboarding for programs and workshops.
  • Help gather participant feedback and program outcome data to support reporting and continuous improvement.
MEMBERSHIP
  • Manage day-to-day membership operations, including new member onboarding, renewals, and inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date member records in MBBA's systems (e.g., Monday.com and related platforms).
  • Support member engagement initiatives, including check-ins, surveys, and recognition of member milestones.
  • Help identify and troubleshoot gaps in the member experience, escalating patterns or concerns as needed.
MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
  • Draft and schedule communications to members and program participants, including emails and event reminders.
  • Support the creation and distribution of marketing materials for programs, events, and membership campaigns.
  • Coordinate with contractors and partners (e.g., designers, photographers) on marketing and program collateral.
ADMINISTRATION & SYSTEMS
  • Maintain organized program and membership records, files, and documentation.
  • Support tracking of program and membership data for internal reporting and funder requirements.
  • Help maintain and improve workflows within MBBA's project management systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of experience in program coordination, membership services, nonprofit administration, customer experience, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort working with project management and CRM-style tools (e.g., Monday.com); willingness to learn new systems quickly.
  • A collaborative, service-oriented approach to working with members, program participants, facilitators, and partners.
  • Genuine interest in and commitment to supporting Black-owned businesses and Michigan's Black business community.
  • Ability to travel within Michigan for events and programming as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Programs run smoothly, on schedule, and with strong participant satisfaction.
  • Members feel informed, supported, and engaged throughout their membership lifecycle.
  • Program and membership data is accurate, current, and readily available for reporting.
  • Facilitators, contractors, and partners experience clear, timely, and professional coordination.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary of up to $80,000, commensurate with MBBA's compensation structure and the candidate's experience.
